Clueless intelligence

Newsweek pubblica l’anteprima di un rapporto del congresso americano (che sarà reso pubblico durante questa settimana) sugli eventi che hanno portato all’attacco dell’11 settembre.

Il rapportone (900 pagine) include nuove prove sul fatto che Omar al-Bayoumi, persona strettamente connessa ai dirottatori, era un agente segreto saudita. Ci sono critiche per tutte le principali agenzie di intelligence, ma quelle più forti sono per l’FBI, che doveva sapere tutto e invece ha peccato di superficialità.

The report, one congressional investigator said, “is a scathing indictment of the FBI as an agency that doesn’t have a clue about terrorism.” Furious bureau officials say the report misstates the evidence. They say the bureau checked out al-Bayoumi—now back in Saudi Arabia—and concluded he had not given the hijackers “material support.”
